Campus advisory board welcomes new chair, Maryla Scranton

Dr. Mary-Beth Krogh Jespersen, chancellor of Penn State Worthington Scranton, is pleased to announce that Maryla Scranton, of Dalton, has assumed the post as chair of the campus’ Advisory Board.

 

Mrs. Scranton, a 1978 Penn State alumna, has extensive professional experience as a fundraising consultant and in higher education development. Throughout her career, she has been responsible for overseeing alumni relations, development operations, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts, board development and governance, community relations, strategic planning, annual giving, and major special events.

 

She is also a past regional vice president of community relations and development for Mercy Health Partners and The Mercy Foundation, and was actually the impetus behind the establishment of The Mercy Foundation and The Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Institute for Community Health Initiatives.

 

Mrs. Scranton founded her own consulting business in 2003 and has worked with clients throughout the mid-Atlantic states and has presented at national conferences.

 

Active on numerous non-profit boards and organizations, Scranton was honored in 2007 by the Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter as its Alumna of the Year. In addition to Penn State, she currently serves on the board of The Geisinger Insurance Company and The Children’s Advocacy Center.

 

She joined the advisory board of Penn State Worthington Scranton in 2005. A member the For the Future campaign committee, she chairs the Foundations sub-committee.      

 

A native of northeastern Pennsylvania, she is married to former Lt. Governor Bill Scranton and  has one daughter, Brook Coyer, and three stepdaughters, Elizabeth, Julien and Caitlin.
