"Voices of Men" speaker at campus on March 2

2/22/2011 —

The campus health services department, in conjunction with the student activity fee committee, will host "Voices of Men," a program addressing violence against women from a male perspective, on Wednesday, March 2 at noon and at 4 p.m. in the K. Bruce Sherbine Lounge in the Study Learning Center.

Done in a multi-media play format, presenters will focus on issues such as sexual assault and date rape, dating violence and domestic violence, sexual harassment and objectification.  The play uses humor, celebrity male voice impressions and video clips to bring these topics to light in a way that minimizes defensiveness and promotes learning and understanding.

The presenter, Ben Atherton-Zeman, is a spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism and is a public speaker on issues of violence prevention. He has presented in 35 states, Canada, China and the Czech Republic. For the past 15 years, he has worked doing prevention education for rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs and state coalitions.

All students, staff and faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
