Goals and Objectives
The Linde Family Business Mentoring Program serves as an opportunity for junior level students enrolled in the Baccalaureate Degree in Business to enhance their educational experience through advanced instruction and participation in special programs and projects. Students obtain first- hand knowledge of the business world by being paired with a professional in their field of choice.
Requirements and Timeline
All Linde Family Business Mentees are required to first participate in a Leadership Development Program conducted by Worthington Scranton Student Services beginning in the fall of their junior year. Upon conclusion of the program in April, students need to complete an application to participate in the Linde Family Business Mentoring Program. A resume, references, and personal interview are a part of the application and selection process. Recipients are notified about acceptance into the program during the summer preceding their senior year.
Upon successful conclusion of the Leadership Program at the end of their junior year, and subsequent acceptance into the Linde Family Business Mentoring Program, all selected participants are invited to a Kick-off Luncheon and Orientation in September of their senior year. Program sponsors, Eric and Mary Anne Linde, attend this event and provide their remarks to the students related to their vision of the program. Students also have the opportunity to meet with their mentors.
The program continues throughout the participants' senior year and includes such undertakings as: attendance at a corporate or community board meeting; attendance at the Walsh Lecture; attendance at a development event such as the Ridge View Society; completion of a specific project with the mentor's guidance; membership in the student Business Club; attendance at one or more career services workshops; and a report of their Mentoring Program progress as part of their BA 420 (portfolio analysis) course.
Near the end of the students' senior year, a special "graduation" ceremony is held with awarding of a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Lindes; the Chancellor; and mentor.
Students who complete the two-year Linde Family Business Mentoring Program gain real-world knowledge and experiences, develop a network in the business community, and acquire leadership and interpersonal skills that prepares them for their professional careers. Their participation in various high-profile programs, along with their achievements, provides valuable features for their resumes.
